The Cool Drop: The Art of Discreet Luxury
From Parisian ateliers to timeless beauty brands — a celebration of craftsmanship, restraint, and elegance that whispers rather than shouts.
We live in a world obsessed with “new”—new drops, new trends, newness for newness’s sake. This week’s Cool Drop is a quiet rebellion against that.
It’s a love letter to discreet luxury: to the kind of beauty that doesn’t beg to be seen, to craftsmanship that endures beyond the season, to artistry that speaks softly yet leaves an impression.
I’m not here to sell you things. I’m here to invite you to look closer — to appreciate the care, the materials, the stories behind what’s made. C’est Cool was never built for affiliate links or commissions; it was built to celebrate creativity, to spotlight the founders and designers shaping a more intentional world.
If, along the way, you find yourself supporting their work — investing in their craft, their vision, their livelihood — that’s the kind of commerce I believe in: meaningful, mindful, built to last.
Mara Paris
Born in Istanbul, Ayça Özbank Taskan began her career in architecture before settling in Paris and founding her namesake jewelry brand. Each design is conceived as wearable art—a portal for self-expression and a vessel for confidence. Her architectural background and global design sensibility are evident in every sculptural curve and fluid form. The pieces are unique to each wearer, telling new stories each time they’re worn. Loved by Emily in Paris’s costume team and pop icons like Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera, Mara Paris has become synonymous with intelligent, modern sensuality. My personal favorites: the cascading Water Drop Huggie Earrings and, frankly, any of her ear cuffs.
Bonjout Beauty
Founded in France by Doctor of Pharmacology Natacha Bonjout, the brand revolves around a single gold-standard product: Le Balm. Infused with 68 concentrated actives, the multi-award-winning formula is as minimal as it is mighty. Instead of eight separate products, Le Balm acts as serum, salve, moisturizer, eye cream, night treatment, lip balm, primer, and overnight repair mask—all in one. Clinically proven to improve skin hydration and texture (some even credit it with clearing cystic acne), it’s the kind of product that earns permanent status in your medicine-cabinet lineup. Elegant, understated, and effective: the definition of French simplicity.
Atelier Courbet
French founder Melanie Courbet opened her New York-based design gallery to celebrate master craftsmanship and the kind of artistry that can only come from devotion to one’s craft. Through her travels and collaborations with designers, artists, and artisans worldwide, she’s curated a collection that now represents more than 30 makers—from Kyoto to Vienna to Paris. The gallery features everything from Karen Swami’s delicate ceramics to Pierre Bonnefille’s art-meets-function pieces. Courbet is a curator with taste and soul—one to watch.
Déhanche
California-born Erin Webb founded her luxury belt label after moving to Paris, blending Californian ease with Parisian refinement. Déhanche defines its pieces as “statements of refined taste and timeless elegance,” and it’s true. You could wear nothing more than a crisp white tee and perfectly fitted jeans for the rest of your life if you owned the Powder Blue Suede Belt—or this Mija Mixed Metal masterpiece. The brand turns the humble belt into a work of art—functional, sculptural, endlessly chic.
STOULS
A brand to add to your forever wardrobe list—the pieces you’ll pass down for generations. Founder Aurélia Stouls began her career styling shoes for French fashion houses before developing a deep appreciation for leather’s versatility. Each STOULS piece is crafted for daily wear and, somehow, is machine washable. The collections feel timeless yet modern, rooted in quality and sustainability. See these violet leather jeans and this jaw-dropping cropped trench. Ils sont tellement chics.
There’s something undeniably beautiful about investing in pieces—and in people—that are built to last. These founders aren’t chasing trends; they’re creating legacy.
Until next time,
Kelly
